1. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen
This is an everyday non-negotiable, even if you are inside or not at the beach. Think of your daily application of SPF as an insurance policy to preserve your skin’s youthful glow and to prevent against future pigmentation, wrinkles and worse still – skin cancer. Apply an SPF 50 top to toe when hitting the beach or sitting poolside (with cocktail in hand). Ensure to re-apply every 3 hours and even more when swimming (salt water and the chemicals used in pool water can break its efficacy down quicker). Look for a broadspectrum formula that can be used daily. Heard that sunscreen clogs pores and causes acne? Not so, according to tests conducted by two of the world’s leading dermatologists.
For a light sunscreen with a matte and weightless finish, try Aspect Envirostat Sunscreen. For skin’s requiring increased hydration with a radiant finish, try Skinstitut Age Defence. To treat the existing signs of sun and environmental damage, why not try a Photo Rejuvenation? This treatment uses pulsed light to rapidly renew and repair age spots and uneven tone.
2. Lighten Up!
Increased humidity and the warmer weather can reactivate the skin’s sebaceous glands. The cooler weather in winter, along with dry heating, can often zap the skin’s protective barrier function. Why not consider swapping your winter moisturiser for a lighter summer formula? You will notice that your face feels less greasy (especially on super-hot days) and that your make-up will glide on with greater ease and last even longer – no more shiny face! Look for a formula rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C, Kakadu Plum and Co-Enzyme Q10. These free radical fighters not only diffuse environmental damage, but can also help to reduce the signs of pigmentation and uneven skin tone.
ASAP Advanced Hydrating Moisturiser and Skinstitut Moisture Defence provides the perfect blend of hydration and comfort without a a heavy feel or shiny finish. Starting to break out during the warmer months? Try Skinstitut Peel Accelerator treatment. This precision procedure works to decongest and unclog pores for a smooth and refined appearance.
3. It’s All About That Base
Whilst a dewy foundation may keep you glowing during the winter months, as the temperature rises in summer, it can make your face look slicked in unflattering shine. This can accentuate the appearance of lumps and bumps and facial imperfections. Increase your skin’s radiance factor by trying a mineral-based powder. These next-generation formulations provide a non-drying, semi-matte finish that outlasts even the hottest days. The versatile powders can even be used as a concealer for maximum coverage and perfection. Touch ups are easy, simply re-apply as necessary for weightless and undetectable coverage. The natural zinc and titanium contained in the formulation, also provide an SPF 15, so your face is always protected. For a fuller coverage, apply with a kabuki brush. Refresh throughout the day with a fine mist of skin hydrating spray – this helps to set and create a ‘just-applied’ finish.
Try Colorescience Sungorgettable Mineral Make Up which is powder and sunscreen in one. Reset and refresh as required with Skinstitut Multi Active Mist. The zesty aroma instantly awakens a tired complexion. Want an even smother make up base? Why not try a Microdermabrasion treatment for an instantly brighter and awakened canvas.
4. Self-Tanning Rules
Nothing looks worse than a patchy self-tan job. Common mistakes that contribute to an uneven appearance include not exfoliating prior to application and applying too soon onto areas that have had recent hair removal. Exfoliating with a glycolic scrub removes the build-up of dulling, dead skin cells. This ensures an even application that glides effortlessly over the skin for a seam-free finish. Particular attention should be made on the elbows, knees, ankles and any areas of dry skin. For a more intensive exfoliation, apply the scrub to dry skin before you get into the shower. Avoid applying self-tan to areas that have recently been shaved, waxed, plucked, threaded or depilated. The tanning agent can get stuck in the follicle, creating a blotchy appearance. Hair removal can also remove too many surface skin cells, preventing the self-tan from having anything to adhere to – this can create a streaky and stripy appearance. Wait at least 24 hours before applying for a perfectly smooth application.
Remember that all self-tan residue must be fully removed from the skin for at least four weeks before treating the area with Laser Hair Removal. Accelerate this process with a Glycolic Acid Scrub from ASAP or Skinstitut.
