Skin Needling, Not as Scary as it sounds!

Skin Needling may sound like a little scary… but did you know that this procedure can help with a number of skin concerns? By penetrating deeply into the underlying layers of skin it triggers the body’s natural wound healing response within the skin, producing and distributing new collagen. 

What can it be used for?

The procedure has been performed for many years, with a variety of different methods being used for a number of skin conditions.

 How does it work?

Skin Needling is a procedure that uses multiple needles differing in size depending on the concern being treated. These needles pierce the skin creating tiny puncture wounds. These wounds encourage the production and distribution of new collagen that will progressively fill in the scar, stretch mark, or wrinkles being treated making them less noticeable and in some cases disappearing altogether.

The treatment is based on acupuncture and involves a skin roller being pressed over the skin numerous times to induce thousands of microscopic puncture wounds to the skin.

It sounds painful? Is it?

Skin Needling can be one of our more abrasive treatments however we provide an anesthetic cream that is applied by a clinician to the area being treated 30min – 1 hour before depending on the area being treated. This will minimize the feeling of the needles and the only sensation you should feel is some pressure when the roller is being pressed down.

Are there any side effects?

After Skin Needling, the area treated will experience mild to moderate redness, swelling and sensitivity that can last 12 to 48 hours and the skin will start to feel dry and tight. You may also experience possible bruising that can last up to 2-3 days. This is normal as the areas have had pressure applied to them.

After a few days you notice flaking and/or peeling of the skin and once this has shed you will have a healthy, fresh glow and your skin will feel soft, smooth and appear more even.

How will I look after?

After a few weeks and then months you will see a vast improvement in skin tone and texture and with a few more treatments you will experience a reduction in fine lines, smoother skin texture and improved skin tone, reduction of scars and pitting  and improved texture of stretch marks (if this is what you are having treated).
